Beko and ClwydAlyn recognised by WRAP Cymru for circular leasing model

We’re delighted to share that our long-standing work with ClwydAlyn Housing Association has been highlighted in a new case study by WRAP Cymru, the respected NGO driving circular economy thinking and sustainable procurement across Wales.

The partnership focused on introducing a leasing model for domestic appliances into shared and temporary housing managed by ClwydAlyn, offering a compelling alternative to the traditional use of commercial-grade equipment. Under this approach, Beko supplied household-grade products on lease, bringing lower cost, greater usability, and improved sustainability outcomes compared to standard commercial units.

This project wasn’t just about product supply, it was about people and community impact. By replacing over-engineered commercial appliances with familiar domestic models, residents in supported housing settings were able to engage in everyday tasks like washing the kids’ clothes in machines that feel like home. Every location was assessed to make sure the products that were installed were the most appropriate for the needs of the people using them.

The leasing model also delivered clear economic and environmental advantages:

  • Reduced upfront cost and improved cash-flow predictability for the housing association
  • A focus on longevity, repair and reuse built into the leasing agreement
  • Lower energy use and carbon emissions from efficient domestic appliances
  • Beko taking responsibility for servicing and life-cycle management
  • Local engineers engaged in maintenance, supporting the local economy

This work aligns with our broader ambition to support circular business models that decouple value from consumption and keep products in use for longer. We’re excited that DEFRA and public sector partners have long taken an interest in this model, which appeared in the UK Government’s 2018 Resources and Waste Strategy as a notable example from the white goods sector.

Looking ahead, we plan to build on this success by exploring wider rollout of leasing solutions into ClwydAlyn’s domestic housing stock, with appliances refurbished and re-deployed into new homes as part of a true circular lifecycle.
