The positive measurable environmental impact of Electrical Recycling
At Beko, we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact, focusing on decarbonising our operations and implementing more circular principles in our business, such as promoting and supporting product repair and reuse.

We also recognise that recycling end-of-life electricals helps recover valuable resources while reducing the carbon impact compared to using virgin materials. For this reason, we welcome our producer compliance scheme, Ecogenesys’, initiative to quantify the positive environmental impact of the recycling activities they conduct on behalf of their members.
Every tonne of electrical waste collected through Ecogenesys involves transport and recycling, which generate carbon emissions. However, the recycling process also delivers significant carbon savings by reducing the need for virgin raw materials, supporting reuse, and substituting conventional energy generation through energy-from-waste treatment. The net carbon saving represents the overall environmental benefit – the difference between emissions produced and emissions avoided.
In 2024, Beko’s share of Ecogenesys’ recycling activities is estimated to have saved 63,997 tonnes of CO₂e – equivalent to the average annual carbon footprint of thousands of households.
The carbon model behind these calculations uses detailed operational data from transport operators, treatment facilities, and recognised databases like Ecoinvent. It measures both the emissions generated through transport and processing, and the emissions avoided through recycling outputs and energy recovery. The model has been peer-reviewed to ISO 14044, the international standard for Life Cycle Assessment, ensuring the results are robust, reliable, and globally aligned.
This report highlights the measurable environmental benefits of responsible recycling and reinforces the role of circular practices in reducing the carbon footprint.
